how did I hose it up?

I recorded a duet to Sony DAT from a board tape out. Then I re-recorded it into my PC via SPDIF. I thought all went well and ran it through Wavelab with a little compression and reverb. I ripped it to a CD and delivered it only to have the musicians tell me that it was a couple notes too low. Where did I mess up on it?

Are you sure the DAT wasn't set to record at 48khz? (I had that happen to me with a DAT that re-set itself to 48khz every time it was powered down, and some lighting tech had unplugged it, then re-plugged it while I wasn't looking.)

The DAT was set at 48khz but I didn't think I could "bring it in" at anything but that. I'll guess I have to rerecord it to the PC then, or is there a quicker way to do it?

Re-record it into the computer from the DAT at the correct sample rate (in your case, 48k) and then resample it in Wavelab down to 44.1.
