ok, so I'm trying to figure this stuff out, I need a guide to teach me all about midi, drum-programming, and anything else I'll need in industrial, I really want to get ahead in my knowledge of it all. I'd be happy to purchase a book, I just don't know where to look, any ideas?

no software yet, though I did just get a copy of Reason 3.0 from a friend; I still haven't installed it or anything, though

With re:midi and drum programming; read the reason manual.

You can definitely make some good stuff just using reason and the manual will instruct you how to use it all.

It always makes me so nervous when people say such things as above.

But to be of help here, there are tons of "Free" reason tutorials online that can get you the basics. Then just have a good critical listen of your heros music and try to emulate it without ripping it off directly.

Remember inovate not emulate, a good thing to live by.

Also a good way to learn more about your selected Genre is to check out the artists gear their web sites and if they have done so any video demonstrations they may have done (I know Computer Music Magazine always has interesting thing by artists and also how to's of basic styles)....

Both of these magazines deal quite a bit with industrial music, but probably Future Music is where I'd start. If you subscribe, you'll get free CD's of softwares and samples, all kinds of trippy sh*t. I got about 100mb of this really sexy sounding chick ooohing and aahhing and all kinds of dirty talk from my last CD. Now THAT'S worth $6.50 a month!

They show you how to create beats, give you some free software to get started, and how to make grooves POP!
