hook up headphones out of my soundcard ?

hey all,

im beginning to mic an amp, and i want to be able monitor my multitracks without my monitors and amp creating feedback togeather. There in the same room, and i dont plan on building an isolation box.

I figure i can just run headphones out of my soundcard and turn off my monitors when im laying down tracks. I have an audiophile 24/96 card, but both the outs are taken up by the monitors. I could Y adapter them out, but how would i hook it up to a headphone situation ?

If im going about this complety wrong, please let me know also !

You will need a headphone amp. You could do the Y splitter thing, and then run one L/R pair to your monitors, and then run the other L/R pair to your headphone amp.

thanks, i got a little confused after searching for headphone amps. they said they were strero, but had 1 single 1/4 input. Do i need a 2 RCA male to 1 stereo 1/4" adapter ?

do you know any headphone amps offhand that would work for me that i could check out ?

One 1/4" cable can transmit stereo audio data, as long as its TRS - read here for more info:
