Until I find/buy a single mic stand that makes xy overhead micing easy I plan on trying to rig one. So far I've used wire and twist ties an such. It wasn't fun.

I'm wondering if anyone has made a DIY xy mount tfor use on a single boom stand. If so, please share any ideas!!!

No DIY ideas, but this thing works great for coincident and near-coincident miking. I have a couple.

This one would probably also work, and is a couple bucks cheaper.

i agree with everyone else...it doesnt cost much. just buy it. all ya have to do is not have a lunch/dinner at a fast food restaurant and there ya go. remember the joys of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and pick up a box at the store as a meal supplement. :)

These twin mic bars look quite handy but what about phase problems?

I thought the rule of thumb to avoid phase cancellation was to have x-y mics separated at a distance of 3 times the distance from the source. If so then these mic bars would only be safe with very close micing.

No, you're possibly thinking of A/B.
In X/Y, the the mics are supposed to be so close to eachother that they should almost be in contact. You'll still get a little phase-cancellation, though, however minimal.
