Home-made Amp =)

Well.... after all the replies on the "What kinda amp should I buy?" post I made. I decided that a good amp is waaay outta my price range currently. Sooo I'm talkin to my dad about my current funding issues and he says "well, I have my old amp why not give it a try". I didn't take it seriously at first but he made it himself and got it tested at the university he went too(he graduated as a technologist so he knows his technical stuff). He says the tests went REALLY well and his amp kicks ass. After a little digging he found the specs and how they tested. Is this any good??(this amp will be used with Event 20/20's which are 150w speakers)

Brand :Dynaco
Made in: 1972(heheh I know... old)
Channel Balance: -+ 0.1 DB
Output: 60W per channel at 0.2% distortion
Frequency response: 20hz-30khz (he says it goes to 50khz)

and no audio transformer, it uses capasitors instead(thats for the ohms setting I think)
Also he says its an incredibly flat responding amp. Flatter than the Event 20/20's specs.

well.... I'm thinking I might use it as a full time part of my almost complete studio but I wanna know what U guys think of it.

PS: I know thats not a lot to go on... but any advice would help

Thx again,

Sabith

Hi
the Power capacitors smooth the DC current
that has been converted from AC buy the rectifier diodes

just check the ohms on the Events and make sure there 8 ohms not 4

0.2% dist sounds a bit much for 60 per side
the Events like to be driven with a clean sounding amp .......but give it a try
20/20's also come in powered models

see ya Tony
