Any tips on how to improve the mixing and mastering of this particular piece?
I thought the rhythm guitars and bass sounded pretty cool. A bit on the "sterile" side for dirt guitars, but not real bad.
I thought the lead guitar was buried. The 80's style reverb didn't fit IMO.
Are there going to be vocals? If not, there needs to be something else going on in the mix to keep up listener interest.

Nice song you have there! In my opinion, the bass needs to be placed in a lower frequency range to separate it from the guitar and to give more bottom end to your song. And to be honest the bass does sound too sterile, the guitar isn't bad and good enough for me.
Also your kick drum needs a bit more "beat" sound, you know that clicky sound, but not too much. And the snare could benefit from more bottom end for some power.
That's just my taste, but I like this instrumental piece of yours.
