High bias?!

cro2 is chromium oxide i think

i heard it wasn't all it was cracked up to be

alright.
it confused me because on my tape deck a switch for bias is a two way, going from "regular" to "cro2".

The switch controls the bias setting of the deck. It only affects the record mode.

High-bias tapes can take hotter signals for more dynamic range, and a lower noise floor.

If your recording on normal tape use the normal setting. Likewise for high-bias (CRo2) tape.

alrighty. Also, does IEC II/TYPE II mean that its just high bias? Im just trying to find the right cassette for the best sounding quality for my deck, im just a bit confused!

Yes it does. TDK SA would be an example of high-bias tape. Maxell XL II-S would be another.

I always preferred the TDKs myself. They seemed to have less drop-outs, and azimuth issues. YMMV.
