Help upgrading computer

I think it's time I upgrade at least the essentials of my computer.

Here's what I have:

AMD Processor, I think its the x1700, but the speed fo' sure is 1.67ghz
KT400 Dragon Ultra (Soyo)
512 ram (ouch!)

drives and accessories are fine and don't need replacement.

The reason why I feel I need updgrading is that when I record at 24 bit and work with more than 15-20 tracks my monitoring starts suffering. I need to reduce my disk buffers to almost nothing in order to be able to monitor without latency. This causes my system to stutter.

What do you suggest? I spent $2K on a preamp, so I can't go "all out" with the PC. But I can do $2-300. Preferrably less though.

Thanks for your help.

You can score a Asus M2NPV-VM with a gig of RAM, and a AMD Sempron 3400+ processor for $240. The M2NPV-VM is a socket AM2 mobo so you have a sweet upgrade path a year down the road, uses DDR2 memory, and has built in nVidia 6150 graphics.

Spec'd out at www.mwave.com. You may need to kick up the power supply.

Luck
