You shouldn't automatically "eliminate" or cut any frequencies. Use your ears to tell you what needs to be done. If you cut your tracks well using good mic selection, technique and level control as well as recording good sounding, well tuned instruments, you might not need to use any eq at all or very little eq. when it comes time to mix.
About the only thing I know for certain I want to do to most of my tracks is to filter out the subsonic junk below 20 hz. Other than that, a cut centered around 500 hz helps out drum kits a lot of the time.
