Okay well i recently came across 20k that I can spend... (won an online poker tourney)
... anyways...

I can spend the 20k on gear alone. (room treament not included, thats already being done) I posted this in another forum but didnt get much info...

Im a pro tools dude so... Im looking to get a G5 apple... I want to do at most 16 channels of simultaneous recording into pro tools... What interface do you guys say would be good?... Also I wouldn't be using the built in pres right? or i shouldnt?... So what AD/DA converters go good with pro tools... and I also want a control surface for pro tools... did i just spend more than my 20k? lol maybe i did... idk!

give me your opinions on what to get with this 20k given that i want 16 ins and outs and i want a digital control surface just to control pro tools from...

Giving me the set up of your idea would be greatly appreciated =] or telling me to get something like a lightbridge thats compatible with pro tools will be cool...

I wouldn't go with a G5. Pro Tools will no longer support it, and neither do Apple - the highest you can go is Leopard running Pro Tools 8.0.1

I have recently bought a G5 - before Snow Leopard was announced and now I wish I had a Mac Pro!

I think the Profire 2626 is an awesome interface, but then you are stuck with the limitations of M-Powered. I would get a 003 Rack+ or 003 (Console) and also a set of pre-amps like a Focusrite Octopre with an ADAT output... Coupled with Complete Production Toolkit, you're smoking.

Just don't blow all the money - save some of it, or invest it in something that will give a return ;)

If i were you...

Mac Pro quad core. Digi 003r.

Apogee Rosetta 800 (connects optical to 003r for 16 ins outs, but your sampling is limited to 48K.)

Digital Control - Euphonix MC Control

Mics-
MXL 603's with Oktava Mod -

That should get you started.

Hey dude, thanks for the good advice...

Do you think it'll make a HUGE difference on the quality of my recordings if the sample rate was at 48k? nah right?... Because i definitely need more than 8 ins at least going to pro tools at the same time.

Okay so the OS that comes with the Mac Pro will obviously be fine with Pro Tools... because i think someone in another forum said differently, maybe I'm wrong though...

The 003r seems like a good match, im definitely getting that. And the Mac Pro seems good too... I checked out the MC control, it looks pretty cool, but are there any other control surfaces out there that are compatible with pro tools that I can check out?

thanks dude.

You are gonna find that recording in 48k with the Apogee converters is going to sound better than 96k with just the 003r. I know countless people hat have a Huge Digi HD rig and use apogee for their clocking.

Also the pre's are really garbage on the 003r, so do bother with the 003r+

The Euphonix MC control is cool but your right, there are a bunch of different ones out there. I think Alesis just made a cool new one.

As far as the OS for mac compatibility with Pro Tools you have entered the world of why Pro Tools is a bitch. They never seem to ever really get it right when it comes to Digidesign making new software and really testing it against the current Mac platform.

I personally run PT8 with Mac Leopard 10.5.5 and i am scared to upgrade to snow leopard.
