Hello To The Music Community

I Have Plans To Make My Own Music With Some Friends, Which For Right Now Is More Fun Than For Anything Else. I Have Been Doing Very Little Research On What A Home Studio Is Comprised Of And What The Necessary Elements Are. Also, My Musical Vocabulary Is Limited. I Have A 6 Month New Pc With Xp Home And Want To Buy A Mac Mini So I Can Use Garageband Which I Think Is Great. As Far As I Am Concerned, Garageband Is Everything You Need To Create And Record Music. So Basically, What Hardware And/or Software Is Necessary To Create And Record Music Or Beats With Lyrics Over It And So Forth? What Are The Absolute Basics That I Need? What Should I Want? I Do Not Know Music Or Equipment Lingo, So Please Give Me A Simple Defenition Of The Terms You Include If You Reply To My Thread. Thank You So Much For Reading Or Responding.
Your Help Or Comments Are Greatly Appreciated.

It's REALLY BAD FORM to post the same thread/Q across a variety of forums.
It's REALLY annoying to keep coming across them.
You REALLY ought to have a little more patience & SEARCH the forum with the search tool etc to find what's already been done/said/offered & filter it to suit your circumstances.
Cheers

Hello, welcome and such,

The biggest thing would be, what's your budget? Do you have any MIC's currently? Any Preamps/Mixer?

The bare esentials would be an analog to digital, a preamp, a mic, and garageband.

M-Audio's stuff should work great with garage band: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.filter&ID=garageband

check that out for more information on that.

i have no hardware whats so ever. what i Do have is this 6moth new or so pc with xp. can you recommend a very decent mic @ very decent $$$ ?

also, one of my moves will be to save up for the new mac mini w/ intel core processor comps and therefore utilize garageband which i think is
FAN-TA-STIC !!!

i will plan to spend at least 2 thou-wow, but not in one lump amount......little by little, paychk-paychk. i will definately save and wait a paychk or 2 to purchase a good deal.

whats the diff. between preamp/mixer? is the amp/preamp the monitor?

i agree...i think m-audio is cool start...is this any good? :

By The Way

i read your post on your garage studio setup

you are 14 ? ? ? ? ?

you are 14 ! ! ! ! ! ! !

you are a cool youngster, and also focused and smart....keep going that way.....who cares if what your doing will perfect or not so perfect....thats how life goes and im sure i will get many things wrong when buying something or hooking something up......

also you dad is really cool.

i think as long as you have the drive or interest, you will be happy in accomplishing even little things as that is how we learn and become better at something. otherwise the word "practice" or "learn" would not be a part of our language.

anywho those who stuck up for you are kind and courteous and i would like to be their friends.

talk to you soon

peace

Hah well thanks, he's a good guy, and im trying to learn a bit here and there.

If you're just trying to do a single mic at a time then preamp's would probbly be the best/most cost efective way to go, if you'd like to go to apple then I really don't know what to tell you, but I belive most of M-Audio's stuff works fine with apple's but don't quote me on that.

For $2,000 staying completely windows (I've been raised on it so I know nothing else besides openbsd) you could probbly go with something like:

- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--ZZORECPAK - $600 - Mic, Monitors, Stand, Mount, Headphones, CD's
- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--PRSBLUETUBEDP - $200 - Preamp
- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--MDOFWSOLO - $200 - Interface

From there for software:
- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--MDOMPOWERED - $250 - ProTools
OR better yet
- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--STECUBASESX - $600 - Cubase
or
- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--CAKSONARPRO - $500 - SONAR

The Preamp is not needed with the M-AUDIO Solo but its a quality preamp and a very important part of your sound chain, I know the monitors in the first link are good as for the MIC, I really am not sure.
