Hello All

Prunepicker

Bassist, Arranger & Teach
I'm a newbie to this forum.

I'm a Finale user and like it very much. What I want to learn from
this forum is how to mix a product.

I'm a professional musician and arranger who doesn't know squat
about mixing, although I've worked in studios since the 70's. I'm
a plug and play bassist, i.e. I walk in, read the chart get my check
and leave. My music is Orchestral and Jazz - not electric, however
if it pays, I plays.

Hi.. I am also new here. I am here to gain more knowledge about forum.. You've got a nice job but there is something there is more that you wanna know, maybe you should go to school of music so that you can learn it there.

Hey guys welcome to HR

Welcome, guys!

Yes, you could go to school to learn mixing, but learning from people at HR who already know how and reading a few books would be a lot cheaper! ;)

Funny! I teach bass and jazz improv at a university that has such
a music business course but have not been able to coordinate sitting
in on the classes.

Which thread is a good place to start? Mixing is my main goal at the
moment. Maybe a site that has the basic theory in place and
isn't overshadowed by "tech talk".

As I mentioned, Finale is the product I'm using so mic's and boards
aren't being used.

Did you see the links that Arcadeko and I posted?

The sticky threads at the top of each forum are generally a good place to start. If there's too much technical jargon there, I'd recommend reading David Gibson's Art of Mixing first, then progressing to slightly more advanced books such as Roey Izhaki's Mixing Audio and Bobby Owsinski's Mixing Engineer's Handbook.

As a general rule, I read three books on every subject. At least one of them will be brilliant, while the others will likely be uninspired regurgitation of widely known information. However, in many cases, I luck out and find a lot of worthwhile information in all three books on a given topic.

Regarding books about MIDI sequencing, look for out-of-print books written by British authors in the 1990s. These tend to be somewhat more inspired than American mass-market books on sequencing.
