head relapping - tascam 388

This is sort of a cross post. Sorry.

I'm looking at a 388 that apparently needs a head relapped (seller says track 1 started fading in and out).

How much would this cost? It's a 1/4" machine.

The total job with re-calibration should run somewhere around 300 bones, depending on the skill and speed of the service facility you chose to go with.

Make sure they have the right calibration tapes, service manual and experienced staff on board before you hand over your beast to them.

Cheers! :)

There's also a possibility that heads in fact do not need re-lapping and that some other issue is causing the track to fade in and out.

Possible alignment issues.

Possible uncleaned dirt and oxide build-up on a head or guide post

Possible intermittent connection on a channel card...

Either way, if you do go the professional service route, make sure they're equipped for the job.

Cheers! :)
