Guitar > MIDI > Synth help?

I've been strongly considering setting up a giutar to controll my soft and hard synths.

Does anyone have good experiences with their setup that they can share so that I might get an idea of what pickup, converter, or midi guitar I could look into and what price models for such good setups would cost?

Also, has anyone gotten this going on an acoustic guitar?

I use one of my old electrics, and no I have no GOOD experiences. The one thing it will do is force you to improve your articulation. I have a Roland GI-10 (I think that is what it is called), and its tracking is not great.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the unit, but it requires very solid technique.
