Group Automation Relative Volume Edit Window

Hi
Folks
I have a Pro-Tools question for you that I have never been able to figure out.

Say I have a group of 3 guitar tracks, 57, ribbon, room. And I have them set at 3 different volume levels on my faders. If I want to write automation to these tracks in the mix window, there relative levels stay the same, however if I try and write automation in the edit window all of the tracks in the group will go to the same volume and not maintain their relative volume to the group.

This has been bugging me forever. Any ideas?

If i understand you, you are grouping the three.
If you write automation to the grouped tracks by moving one of the faders, the rest move the same amount up and down, in relation to where they were.

If you do it in the mix window buy drawing a line, they all jump to whatever volume you've clicked in?

This makes sense to me and is what i'd expect to happen.

If you want to automate them all in the edit window, i'd suggest just sending all three to an aux track and writing your group automation to that.

That way you can automate the guitar group via the aux, and you can even automate the blend of the three mics within the group if you so wish.
More room in the intro, more ribbon in the choruses, whatever.
