Good sub $200 monitors?

$200 for the pair, or $200 each? You can get a pair of KRK Rokit 6's for about $400:

A pair of Behringer 2031A Truth's for about $340:

Yamaha HS50M's for $400:

I have the truth's, I like em. 8" active monitor, can't beat em for the price. I never heard anyone complain about krk. Yamaha is nicer in general, but the hs50m's are only 5".

If you need the pair for $200, then I dont really have any advice for you, thats a pretty limiting budget. Google around, see what's available on zzounds, musiciansfriend, samedaymusic, etc. Find reviews, etc. I saw some stuff by M-Audio, behringer, and other mfr's I never heard of, you'll have to research reviews, do some research.

The connection shouldnt matter, you can get adapters for convert any jack/plug to whatever you need.

I can honestly say that I have not been disappointed with my M-Audio AV-40's

When I first got them I was really not expecting a whole lot of them, (you don't get what you don't pay for) but was really pleasantly surprised by what I heard. I am a maniac when it comes to checking mixes in different environments and the AV-40's have done a great job, in that when I check my mixes in different environments (i.e my '08 Toyota Prius, a friends Ford Escort with a modded sound system which is really mid-rangey, to a normal old boom box with mega-bass and a cheapo CD player that you really have to work to get anything to sound good (most commercial releases sound like crap in this CD player) things are pretty much on target across the board and with a few minor tweaks things sound great across all of those environments.

At $119 for the pair, you really cannot go wrong with them, I have really learned to trust to what I am hearing out of these little monitors.

HTH
