Good buy.. or not worth it?

I've had the Tascam 238 on my 'want' list for a long time, but I don't 'need' it so I'm not willing to spend a lot of money on it.

As I'm sure you've all see, one is on ebay in sort of working shape for, right now, about $15. The seller said the 'Capstan motor seems to make a whining noise' and he isn't sure what other issues it has. The seller is not far from me.. worth trying to pick it up (cheap) or should I ignore it?

I would try to arrange to pick up the item, instead of shipping it.

Usually it's the capstan controller board. You might still be able to get replacements for it. IIRC some people have managed to recap them and fix it, but the capacitors are all surface-mount so it's a nasty business.
