Genius question

OK , more like idiot question!

Why do all the DAW piano rolls have 132 or more keys?? is it to split for two sounds/ ( layering?)

How come I always have to "map" (convert) sounds between where they say they should play in the module ( or VSTi) and where they actually end up actually getting triggered by the piano roll?

What a PITA !

I assume it's to support devices that have more than 88 locations (e.g. synths and samplers) for sounds.

If the piano roll is offset from your device it's usually because your device has some kind of transposition activated in its settings.
