fw1884 as midi only controller

Hi:
Anyone out there know if the Tascam FW-1884 can be used as a surface controller WITHOUT the firewire connected with Cubase 5. I want to do this so that I can use a Motu audio interface, and be able to control the mixer in Cubase at the same time . Any help would be appreciated.
 
The answer is yes. Your fw1884 is highly configurable as a midi only controller - providing you have the software. What you will need are the continuous controller numbers from the Cubase mixer and a midi interface as the fw1884 was made before midi over USB was standard --- it does not have a USB out. Other than that, it will take a few hours to configure but once you have it working it will be working forever, or at least until you decide to change your sequencing software.
