Is there a good reason one couodnt place studio monitors BEHIND you in a 4 foot triangle? I sit in my chair and try to tell a difference between the two positions and I cant hear much of a difference.
I ask because I am using a corner desk and I cant reach the keyboard if I am 4 feet from my monitors the way they are positioned now.

Sounds coming from behind sound differently that the ones from the front thanks to the shape of our ears. This is one of the ways our brain tells us where a sound is coming from.
If this makes any practical difference when mixing, I don't know.
