First time recording drums

So ive been doing home recording for a while, but im about to take a stab at recording drums for the first time.

Right now I have two 57's, and an AKG 3000. Im planning on getting two AT 4040s soon. Ive read the 57 is good for toms and snare, and im thinking use the AT 4040s as overheads. Im wondering if the AKG 3000 can give me a decent sound out of the bass drum? Im really not looking to buy another mic.

Another quick question...Im using the Xmax pre amps on the Fireproject Studio interface, and I also have a FMR RNP pre with 2 channels. Shoud I run the overheads (AT 4040) through the RNP pres.

Your game plan sounds ok but I'm not sure about the 3000. It shows (for the 3000B anyway) that max SPL is 140 to 150db. So I think it'd handle the kick. Throw it on and see what it sounds like. Ya may or may not like how it sounds.
Are you using the Recorderman or Glyn Johns techniques by chance?

Im guessing Glyn Johns. Id like to use the least amount of Preamps on the Fireproject as possible.
