Hi All

I am using Guitar Rig Pro 5 as my Amp Modeller as I can't use a mic'd up amp at home.

I also use the Redwirez Impulses instead of the cabs in GR5.

My problem seems to be that when record using GR5,I get a recording that lacks top end.

My signal chain is

Guitar - M-Audio Profire 610 - Sonar X1 Expanded - GR5 with Redwirez AC30 Impulse - Universal Audio LA2A Leveller.

It was suggested that my monitors could be naff, because the mix sounds fine in Phones, but a commercial cd plays fine
on phones and monitors.

Any thoughts/advice appreciated

Thanks

Alan

Monitors are Spirit Absolute 2's - About 20 years old.

Trouble is commercial stuff sounds OK,I think

Just recorded the guitar dry and on phones sounds fine

Platback on monitors is muffled, very little top end.

Anyone recommend some new monitors?

Yes,I am thinking Guitar Rig is the problem.

I will try Amplitube.

I tried Waves GTR3 last week,it was excellent.

The Spirit Absolute 2 monitors were actually pretty good little boxes. Like any nearfield speakers, they were a bit weak on low bass but were pretty accurate in terms of frequency and tonality. Unless they've been abused I'd probably trust them over most headphones which are often a bit skewed to make everything sound good.

I can't comment on the modellers since I don't use them--but it's worth trying some of the suggestions. I certainly wouldn't be throwing out the monitors (but if you decide to, can you throw them towards Queensland?).
