Hello everyone I need your help...my band finally took the plunge and we decided to use our own recording equipment as opposed to going to the studio (cheaper). Anyways we recorded our first song called Out of the Flames and I need some help on the final mixing process and some tips wouldn't hurt either. Thanks guys.

I can't hear the kick drum very well. It might be cause I'm listening with headphones. You have way too much echo on the vocals though. I know you want some echo for this type of music, but it's too much.

naw it's not your headphones...i haven't fully mixed the drums yet....I just relistened and I need to bring up the kick drum and bring a little of the lows out of the toms. I meant for the chorus to be trippy (hence the echo) but I guess I got carried away lol.

Anymore suggestions so I can get a proper mix?

pretty cool song.
i found the rhythm guitars to be a bit overpowering. There is part where there is a bit of lead guitar part that should come up a lot. For the vocals, i would take some of the echo off of the verses, leave the chorus a bit trippy if you like.

Thanks man...I'll turn down the rhythm guitars. I really don't have good monitors yet so I'm relying on you guys to help me mix this darn thing lol.

anymore input...i really need it:)

Dude. this song has potential.
I would try and tighten up the bass a little... tack on some compression to make it really thicken up the sound in the softer verse sections.
Also, about 2:00 into the song, the vocals get really badly distorted in an unmusical way. Ditch the distortion. Solid State distortion = suck.
The drums are EQ'd badly/incorrectly. Too much lower treble/upper mids = sound like cymbals are made out of old tin cans.
Overall, this song just needs to be mixed and EQ'd a little more methodically and it will punch and be nice.

Let us know how you mixed and recorded it, too.

JazzMang Out.

is there chorus on the vox? i would lose that, it makes the vocal less powerful. too much distortion on the vox halfway. not bad other than that, and obvious drum issues.

The drums sound weird. Like you have only overheads and you pumped the highs way too much. It also sounds like some phase problems between them...they sound phasey and weird. There is something wrong with the bass sound, it's flubby here.

The song is cool enough I guess...but the mix is thuddy and hashy in the drums and bass.
Not a mix thing I don't think, I would retrack the drums at least and see where it stands.

The fade happens too early but that's the least of your issues here.

i think its kind of cool - its got that trippy porno for pyros or even an oasis recring sound. that phasey sopund is actually pretty cool.

... if you're on acid...

*hands JazzMang some acid*

Just kidding...anyways I remixed it...I took off most of the phasers on the vox, lowered distortion on the vocals, turned down the rhythm guitars and eq'd the drums.

I'll post the remix soon and go from there.

PORNO FOR PYROS ROCK!!! I really like that comparison, altho I don't think I sound like Perry Ferrel (sp?).
