I'm recording a roland xv-88 straight into an echo mia soundcard in cakewalk pro audio 9 on a pentium 4 1.3 gig. Do I need an external mixer? What are the advantages of having one? Right now, I've got the mia input levels cranked b/c i know that's necessary to really reach 24 bit recording, and as far as adjusting the levels on input, i just do this by lowering the volume on the xv-88. Is this stupid? where i run ito some trouble is when i'm trying to record a background part and i have to play it super loud because i don't know how to listen softer while recording and keep the levels up. Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.
