external hard drive - recommendations?

Hi -

I'm thinking about getting an external hard drive for my new pc - just for audio.

Any suggestions? What do I look for as far as speed and silence?

I only have a 40 G hard drive. Won't take much to fill that...
 
i have an "ION" 80 gig firewire hard drive and it does well for me in recording. of course i alsways save my immediate work right on my computer but when that drive gets full i transfer some stuff to the external. It sometimes has "delayed write failures" whiichs is super annoying.

one piece of advice, don't do system updates with XP with your external online. when i did, windows put the opdates on that drive without me specifying that. ths is uncool because when i don't have my drive up and running windows cannot get at those files and does wierd shit.
 
Actually its easier then a sound card.

The directions are very straight foreward. Its as simple as connecting to things and setting some jumpers (all is explained in the directions)

I just bought a Western Digital 120g from Best Buy last week and the install took 10 mins from start to finish.

If all you need is storage internal is the way to go.
