i've been using a motu 828 with my ibook (g3/500mhz/20gb hd) and can only process 12-14 tracks (depending on fx and such). seems the slow hard drive in the ibook is the culprit. is there a way to use a faster, external firewire harddrive with this rig? i can't seem to find it referenced in the manual. if it is possible, any advice on configuration and hard drives available?

thanks!

tony - I'm no expert on homerecording, but I am an IT guy. The first questions I would ask are:

1. How much RAM do you have?

2. Is your HD Expandable?

3. Can your unit run RD RAM?

4. Can your Unit run dual HDs?

Answers:

1. If your have less than 512 mgs time to upgrade.

2. You should increase your HD to the largest amount of space possible, preferably 80GB+

3. If you can install Rambus, by all means do it to the max.

4. If you have a USB port you may consider using an external HD in addition to boosting your onboard, that way you aren't reading and writing to the same drive.

Once again, this is approaching the problem from a computer geek's perspective not recording guru wisdom. ;)
