ever played an Akai GX-2300?

I bought an old old Akai GX-2300 two track (reel to reel) recorder. It's pretty old. Every time I try to play back the recorder reel it plays backwards (or rather is sounds like being backwards. I've tried to change the sides but all I get is the reverse music. What am I doing wrong? Help

Sounds like you are not rewinding the tape before you try to play it .
