Event EMP-1 mic pre

I bought this gem with the nice brushed aluminum case a couple of years ago and it's quite nice. Very clean sound, even with the gain turned up all the way. Offhand I can't recall exactly, but I think it cost about $220.00. Is there anyone else around here who has one or has used one before? How does it compare to other mic pres you've used?

I've got one but only use when I need it for field recording. It's clean but lacks gain. With a condenser mic that has a strong signal like a C-1 it would be ok. I used it Monday for a recital on the narrator using a dynamic Shure beta 57 and it did the job.
