Do the new macbooks really not have firewire? The older ones did, didn't they? I was going to be ordering one in a couple of weeks, with a new interface (i haven't decided which yet) but I was definitely looking at a firewire, not USB 2. Am I missing out much if I go for it anyway?

Correct. The new MacBooks have no FireWire. If you want to use a FireWire interface, you must either purchase a MacBook Pro or one of the previous generation MacBooks (i.e. white MacBook), which are still available from Apple.
