EQ question

When I mix songs they sound fine to me in the car or stereo and of course over the monitors. However when I listen to them on cheaper speakers like a laptop they sound very toyish or tinny sounding. Other professional songs sound good on my laptop but not mine. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear my stuff over the laptop is it's very tinny and missing bass. Is this a EQ problem? If so why does it sound okay over things like home and car stereos if the EQ is off?

Well, if it sounds good on monitors (is your room treated?) and in the car, I think it probably wouldn't sound worse than other songs on a laptop. Are you sure you aren't just over-criticizing your mixes? I know I do that a lot...

Maybe so. I think I'll post my next song to the site here and see how others thinks it sound. Thank you for the reply.

Is it because you need to crank the volume up on the laptop? Is the overall recorded volume the same on what you are comparing to?
