EMU 1212 or Tascam US-122ll ?

Hi Everyone. I was hoping to get some help regarding this issue below:
I bought a EMU 1212 card about 4-5 years ago. It uses patch link software to create virtual input and output buses. In Cubase LE 5 I set the connection up and tell Cubase what the input is, and output etc.. The problem I'm having is I can't adjust the settings to get a hotter signal from the patch link. I get a signal for the Bass guitar, my electronic drums, and the acoustic guitar, but they don't come in very "hot".
The Cubase LE version I use came with the Tascam US-122 ll external interface device I bought. when I use that, the signal is hot and I have no problem getting the signal in from all the instruments. The only issue is, the latency is lower with the Emu card so I'd rather use that. I was wondering, would the recording sound better if I used the EMU card? Is there a difference with what hardware people use when they record on their pc's? Like would the signal sound cleaner with the Tascam or the EMU card? Anyone ever have an experience with this setup? Thanks again all!
