EMU 1212 needs more inputs

I purchased one of these soundcards. The front cover says 12 Inputs/12 Outputs. The store tech told convinced me the same. It was my bad on not being heads up enough, but my problem there is only 2 in and outs. What is the best way to get more inputs? There is an upgrade audiodock, but im thinking a mixer my be better. Digital or Analog...? Thank You.

I think that the M-Audio Octane (eight mic pres with digital out) will plug into the 1212m

In other words: The 1212m has ADAT (digital) I/O which accounts for 8 channels in and out. An affordable solution to get use out of that is for instance a Behringer ADA8000.
