Electronic Drum Question...

I'm not a drummer, but a drummer friend and I were talking and it raised a question, which might be an obvious one, but since I'm not up on drums, I don't know the answer:

My friend uses a Roland TD8 drum module and was talking about editing the sounds inside the module... I then started thinking about how we in recording use programs like Drumagog to replace drum sounds...

My question is: In a live/stage situation, is there a drum module available that will allow me to import wav samples into it and use those sounds, instead of just allowing the editing of the stock sounds that are already in the module?

OR you could use the MIDI out of the Roland set to control a software drum modal like these:

I personally like The eZdrummer line, and can't wait to get my hands on Superior Drummer 2.0. I have heard may complaints about the BFD line of products, and Battery just has a screwy interface. Its not very intuitive, although does offer a large range of control, just like that of Superior Drummer 2.0.

My recommendation is eZdrummer, or Superior 2.0, but hit up the links and check them all out.
 
Yes, the Yamaha DTXtreme III (and older IIs) modules have sampling capability. The new module has much more (512MB or 1GB vs 8MB) than the older one like I have, but you could load it up with your samples and assign to pad voices.

Or do the computer thing as was suggested earlier.
 
I highly recommend the Alesis Trigger I/O with Native Instruments Battery or Kontakt. Lovely!!!
 
The Alesis DM Pro module (not to be confused with the DM5 Pro electronic kit, as the module with that kit is a DM5) allows you to upload your own samples into the module. That allows you to play live without needing a software drum replacement program, but still gives you the flexibility to use your own sounds. They have been discontinued, but a quick google search will pull up a few that are still in stock
