Can I get more harmonics out of the bass energy coming out of the cabinet, if I reduce the pressure levels at the mic position with low frequency absorbers?

Try moving the mic around. I assume the harmonics are present in the amp/speaker output, they are just too low in the recorded sound? If so, some post-tracking EQ would work.
