I really like the effects that come with Koala on the iPad that you can control with the knobs of a midi controller (reverb, distortion filters, reverse, etc.) and I've been on the hunt for something like that for my desktop. The closest thing I've come up with so far is Synchronous Effect Modulator which is included in Reason Studios. Not quite the same thing, but it does have a couple settings that you can modify with knobs like reverb, distortion, filter/resonance.
Anyone know of other effects VSTs that allow you to change the color and dynamics of a sound via the knobs on a midi controller for live performance or automation?
