Editing

Hi folks!

I've been trying to figure out if it would make any difference if
I make the editing of my recorded tracks on a second computer,
without my normal audio interface.

Editing would in this case mean, cutting out unwanted noise etc.
(and maybe move parts instead of automatic quantizing)

I don't intend to make any changes to the sound with Eq/Comp
or any kind of other fx.

Being the laziest old fart around the North Pole, :spank: ( I know . . . . . . . )
I thought I’d throw this out here, instead of actually trying myself. :o

Other than driving your monitors, your interface wouldn't normally be involved in the editing process. I frequently swap between a couple of computers using an external drive.

Just be careful not to change file names etc. or your DAW may throw error messages about not finding certain tracks etc.

It seems to me you'd me making more work for yourself unless the computer is in another more convenient part of town for you.

Why not just do all editing and mixing on one computer?

Or did I miss something?

Cheers :)

Thanks for your replys.

The thing is, i could use a laptop and do my editing,
I've got somthing like 6 - 10 hours a week, simply
because I'm an hour or an hour and a half early to work everyday.

(Please don't ask me why that is..........)

Just thought I could use that time to do some pre mixing editing.
Otherwise I do just about everything on the main audio computer.

It'll make no difference. Do your editing wherever you like.

The only way it could make a difference is if you're consolidating or rendering your files to move them, but if you're literally just copying the whole session over it's fine.

You're gonna love having the flexibility to toss files from your studio computer onto your laptop and edit any time, anywhere you go. I remember having the same concerns you voiced here, but no worries, it works perfectly!
