duplication from a master

theoretically a CD burnt from a master should sound exactly the same because its only digital information being transferred right? Because i just got my duplicated batch of CD's back and I could swear I hear a difference in quality between those ad the master. So doesnt that mean the person duplicating them did something to alter the sound? Maybe Im just hearing something I expect to hear, I dunno.
 
What kind of duplication did you have done? Are they CD-R's or did you have "real" CDs manufactured?
