im thinking on buying Motu2408mkii and Mackie VLZ mixer to record on my pc.......will i need compression can someone suplly links for a compressor so i can see what it is :D

if your to lazy to click on the link (like me):

BASICALLY, a compressor makes your signal all one volume.

Compressor - A signal processing device that does not allow as much fluctuation in the level of the signal above a certain adjustable or fixed level.

...a compressor makes your signal all one volume.

All one volume!!!! That sounds useful...

What it really does is lessen the difference between the softest sounds and the loudest sounds (the dynamic range).

A good link...

Our very own Shailat wrote a great article on compression, and it also links to a more technical article on compression that I wrote. Go to:

http://www.geocities.com/Shailat2000

There are audio examples in Shailat's aritcle, and descriptions of colorful uses for compression. My article mainly describes what all the knobs do.

Good luck.

Hey Ed thanks for posting that link. I was going to post it but I couldn't find it. Had to clear my history folder so the fiancee can remain oblivious to my appetite for internet porn :D

When I thanked Shailat for the article, he said I should thank you for you part in it. But I'm not going to...

Yes, that would be the one I was talking about. You should not have a problem hooking it up using that mixer. You could either use the effects sends/returns for it, or do it directly in-line (Mic -> RNC -> Mixer). Most people say to wait until mixdown to add in such effects, so that would use the first method I mentioned.
