Drum Triggers

blueroommusic

you want this big boy?
I know I could've posted this in the MIDI forum, but I figured I would get a bigger response here.

I've been looking all over god's green earth for MIDI triggers for drums, but all of the ones I can find require a drum module in order to work. I was wondering if anyone knows of a brand of triggers that is basically just a trigger w/ a MIDI cable. And if so, would I be able to just hook it into my 896HD and hit record? any input would be greatly appreciated.

oh and for anyone interested, I just bought a ginormous orange guitar combo, and I creamed my pants when I found the right tone....literally.

hey dude,

quick answer: no
to make midi out of a trigger you need circuitry boards with resistor and a pic.
you can build your own converter if you know an electronic freak

have a look there

http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/admir/

and triggers are just piezo's
you can get some for 0,45$ each at http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=search&item=PE-45&type=store

or try the radioshack 273-073 (piezo buzzer, the round ones with only 2 leads)

if its for recording you have a soundcard with at least 8 inputs you'll be fine, kick, snare, 3 toms, hi hat mic, overheads,

you can then convert to midi with triggerbox plugin if you're using cubase, or can also use drumagog to replace the hits with real samples, but this one isn't free.

Voila!

The triggers turn the movement of the drum head to electric impulses, the drum module turns the electric impulses into sounds or midi notes or both. You need to have both.
