Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a great drum sequencer program to assist me in my recording, right now Im using fruity loops but Im not the biggest fan of the sequencer, i dont know how to program ghost hits, and give it realistic vibe, any ideas?

Also wondering if anyone knows of a good place to pick up some dubstep, hip-hop vintage drum sounds?

Thanks,
Dave

Addictive Drums

Groove Agent
Drums on Demand
Drumaxx

There's shit loads

I have ezdrummer. It sucks but it's pretty good.

Hi
I use Anvil midi software (free download) to write my drum stuff.
(also does loads of other stuff)
Then use that to fire off my drum machine.
It's realy easy to use, even for a dumb ass like me.

I program all my drums in Cubase. Also, I find that I get more natural feel when playing them from the keyboard initially and then maybe fix things here and there.

I mainly use whatever has come with NI Battery and one-shots for this, alonside with some chopped up loops.

not sure what you mean realistic vibe when you want dubstep and I take it you mean vintage electronic sounds??

Goldbaby have some excellent vintage samples for free

Waves alchemy have some great kick drum samples for free

for playing Poise One Small Cube is a great way to load up your samples and great value at $50, I use and MPD24 with it and its superb

Superwave has some solid, and cheap, tinypops, 808, 909 emulators

a good sequencer (and for free) is Hydrogen...meant for the Linux OS but seems to work solidly in Windows...

For "real" drums I cant see past Superior Drummer 2...it can also control the EZ drummer Electronic pack...but to be honest some of this free and/or cheaper stuff has plenty of options and gives me (a cheap Scotsman) a lot more satisfaction...maybe you too

I program all my drums in Cubase.

I use to do that in Cubase during its Atari days.
I still remember the Cubase Drum Edit window very well...but I haven't programmed a drum track in about 12 years, though believe it or not I still have my Atari/Cubase rig. It still works and I have it locked to my DAW and my open reel deck via MTC :D but have not used it in over 3 years for any kind of MIDI sequencing. If I want a synth or sampled sound, I just play it and record it as an audio track.

I bought a copy of EZ Drummer couple of years ago...just to have in case I couldn't find a drummer to play my kit...but have yet to even install it! :)

I use to like doing all the MIDI sequencing/programming music...just ended up going back to doing more basic Rock/Pop stuff the old-fashioned way.

Wow! You just brought back memories of my first foray into MIDI, drum programming, etc....It's not THAT long ago, but it seems like a lifetime ago.

LMAO!!! I wasn't sure if anyone else ever used Anvil. I actually paid for one of the upgrade packs sometime around 2004. I didn't even know that I was scoring midi at the time. I would do one bar at a time, export to wav. and then loop it in Cool Edit.

Anyway, I haven't looked back since I started using FL Studio.

I use PC Drummer, it's about 30 bucks and super easy to use. See attached screenshot of my latest effort below.
