drum overheard SDC or LDC

i am about to start recording an indie rock band. for drum overheads i have 2 studio projects b1's large diaphram( http://www.studioprojectsusa.com/b1.html ) or 2 carvin cm90e's small diaphram( http://carvin.com/products/single.php?ItemNumber=CM90E&CID=MIC ) just wondering what people would suggest i use?

I would say it's a toss-up. Try them both out and use the ones that sound best.

I'd go with the SP B1's. Carvin just has bad karma.

ok, thanks for the info. but one question, have you ever used carvin yourself gobblefisher? everything i have used of theres i have been very satisfied with.

Small has better definition for me, I've tried large and it seems to get a little "busy". I have never used Carvin stuff but somne friends of mine do with very listenable results

It depends on the kit, room, etc... and the sound you want.

yeah, i will just try them both out. The only problem with using the SP b1 is that with my aardvark direct pro q10 even with the preamp turned down as low as it gets(-8) it still clips sometimes, unless i put the overheads like 6 feet away from the drum set.

Then use the CM90E's or get some inline pads for the B1's.

Both Full Compass and Sweetwater sale them.

Not sure of who all would sell them but you may be able to build your own.
