Ok, I got the mics now I need the clean interface. Right now I intend on going to a laptop. For multi-tracking in the future I'm planning on building a 4-U. I've got a Mackie 1202 to go to my DAT, it works, but would a DiO 2496, omni (or simular) direct to the hard drive be a better choice?
How do the mic pre's in the inexpensive USB DAW's (boss, tascam) stack up to the Di/o boards?
any older units (Fostex FD-4) that will do the job? scsi is cool
