DP-02 Punch Footswitch?

The DP-02 manual doesn't make any mention about using a footswitch for punching so I have a couple of questions about it.

Can I just use the same type of footswitch that I use for my guitar amps, just a simple on/off switch?

Does the footswitch perform the same function, remotely, as the "Auto Punch" button on the recorder?
 
Wow, surprised nobody has responded yet.

The footswitch is going to be a momentary type switch, not like the ones for your amp. You will set up your punch in and punch out points and then step on the pedal (and hold) to record. Release the pedal when you are finished with the part you are recording.
