Does anyone see any red flags with this system?

My core recording setup is an RME Fireface800 with Sonar.

The only thing that I could think of was maybe doubling the RAM and going with XP64.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Don't go with x64. Its not even supported by Cakewalk anymore. If you do, you deserve what you get ;). That setup looks good to me. Should work great for you.

2nd on the xp64/vista64.

You may want to look at a more modern chipset also, the 975 is nice but its ICH7 southbridge is a couple of years old now and the modern P35/X38 both run ICH9 southbridge and have more modern features (i.e. 12 USB ports). No reason to buy 2 year old tech for a new system

Sounds good to me, I would put 4GB if going with XP64.

I just downgraded to XP64 from Vista 32, also upgrade to
Sonar 7 producer XP64 runs fine with it. But the other guy
is right they have a little warning that the no longer support
XP64 why? probably because I just loaded it on my system.:D

Every one has dragged their feet on Vista now I guess their
ready to start supporting it. Screw them all no one was there
when I needed some Vista hardware except a couple companies
like Motu and RME.

Sonar 6 and 7 seem to run fine on XP64 I vow not to update
either for a couple years. BTW the Vista 32 is a waster of time
if your gonna use it get the 64bit version. I'm running mine on
a Athlon 4600+ so your mileage may vary with an Intel.

Is there going to be a huge difference with a newer mobo? I don't use that many usb ports.

Not really, it will give you a little future proofing and a P35 based board will be cheaper but thats about it

This is the one I currently have on order
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121060

But I don't want to pull the mobo out and change in the future.

I could possibly return it and get this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0200280+50001314+107172277&name=Intel+P31/P35

Would it be worth it to go through the RMA process to make the change? The only "performance" thing I see is that the Gigabyte one has a faster fsb.

Or are there any other tried and tru mobos you recommend? I've stayed away from ASUS because RME users have bad luck with them.

Thanks.

not worth the restocking fee. just stick with that

Well, as it turns out, I can just call UPS and refuse the shipment and there won't be any charge to me. So, I think I'm going to do that.

Upon further research, the Gigabyte board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128064 has very positive reviews. It has the the TI firewire chipset, so it should work fine with my stuff. It's a great overclocker too, if I decide to go that route.

Any other tried and true options?

I went with the Gigabyte motherboard.

I have a question with setting up the system, though. Is there going to be a noticeable difference between Raid0 and separating a system drive and music drive?

Thanks.
