Distortion?

I recorded a MIDI file as an audio track in Cakewalk- sounds fine while recording, no clipping, etc. But on playback I'm getting all of this horrible distortion. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Three possiblities:

1) You are playing the track back too loud and clipping the outputs.

2) Most likely you are not monitoring the actually recorded signal when recording. You may be monitoring your synth output as opposed to your recorder's output.

3) Somthing in your playback path is fried.

Thanks, Lopp. I'm a rank amateur at this Cakewalk thing. I'll check what I'm really monitoring.

Something else Bob, check the output main buss meters and make sure it's not clipping at the main mix buss.
