Distortion Fuzz

I'm limited to recording direct with a Vamp and amplitube. I use Home Studio 2004XL with an audiophile 2496. I hook the Vamp direct into the analog in's on the 2496. I play an Epi Lp standard. I do not mix and match the Vamp with amplitube. Everything is functioning perfectly.

Thats my setup...

I hope someone who records direct can help me with a question.
How do I reduce or eliminate distortion fuzz? Even on low gain settings it's still pretty fuzzy. I know I can't get pro sounds with my equipment but I'm sure there are steps I can take to improve my current sounds. I have most the free VST plugs mentioned on this board, can they help?

Thanks :)

rolling off on the guitars tone can sometimes help. Adding a touch of reverb can do it to sometimes.

Since its digital, why not just find a speaker simulator plug-in?

Turning down the tone and the volume on your guitar a bit will help. Also, EQing some of the nastier frequencies with help to smooth it out.

Thanks for the advice, I've been trying EQ but hadn't thought of lowering the tone. I've always had it on 10  I'll give it a shot.
