Digital connection question:

my sound card has these connection:
SPDIF in/out
Optical in/out

I understand that the SPDIF uses Coaxial Digital Cables and the Optical uses Optical Digital Cables

Assuming that the preamp has a digital out, and has both SPDIF/optical out, which one should be connect? or do i have to connect both? i check the sound card driver and there's only option to record with SPDIF in, there's no option to select optical in, i can only assume that you can't record through the optical in?

naw. Either one will do. There should be a way of recording with either if they have the connections for it on the card.

ya, it's a one or the other thing. I think spdif is better than optical because I don't hear a lt about optical audio connections, but I don't really know.
