Diagnosing a Horn Problem

It appears the horn went out on one of our old Yamaha floor monitors. I pulled it apart and saw the diaphragm was corroded. Took it to a speaker repair/parts place, guy checked it, and said it was still getting a current through it. He recommended against getting a new diaphragm without diagnosing it with the driver attached. So I brought the driver in and the same guy indicated it was corroded and probably wouldn't work for very long. The long and short of it is I ended up with a new driver assembly--did I get screwed? How can you tell in a two part compression driver assembly like this which is the bad actor? Just looking for some education.

Thanks, Alex
