My band is planing on making some demos and I also just want to enjoy the fun of recording on my own time. I was wondering what would be the best to buy with like $1800-2100. Either a computer studio, I could spend like a $600 comp leaving me with like 1300 for mixer, sound card and mics. (I already have calkwalk 9) Or I could go with like the a roland vs or tascam. Help me out building a studio.

Id go with a computer just for versatilities sake... you can use it for graphics and cd layout and a bunch of other shite... as well as recording. and Im a visual kind of guy, so I live having my tracks all laid out.

If you are going the computer route, do it right
and budget more than that. Try to go for Pentium
3, 256 megs ram, fast extra hard drive for
audio, etc.

If you get an internal cdburner, beware: it can get
confusing using several sound cards and internal
cdwriters.

what equipment does your band already have? Let us
know what u got. 2000 clams doesnt get you that
far these days

I would budget $750 for computer, $400-500 on
soundcard, $400 on little mackie mixer,$360
on four Shure57s, and were already at budget,
and we didnt buy any wires yet to hook
all this stuff together!!

If that is your final budget and are really
serious about it, maybe one of the roland
or tascam things will work, I am not up
on their or prices. Good luck, David
