Degaussing a portastudio

I have a Tascam 464 cassette recorder. My little wand degausser seems to have died. I still have the Han-D-Mag I use for my Tascam 48. Is it OK to use this with a cassette recorder?

Yes. Safe to use as long as all the normal degaussing safety procedures are followed with regard to the power on the deck and system being powered down prior to the exercise and the wand being switched on and off from a safe distance away from the machine.

Also keep any recording media away from the wand!

Wow. deGaussing - I remember doing that. I'm sure I still have my deGausser in a tray somewhere in one of my two sheds. It hasn't got a plug on it, though.

Thanks for the info! Degaussing was a success using the Han-D-Mag. Unfortunately it doesn't fix being a crappy guitar player.
